Long ago
I
sat on a levee
near
a bayou
by
the lake
under
the night sky
and
full moon.
There
was a bus
with
lighted windows
behind
tall pine trees
and
April grass
with
fish jumping
every
few minutes
or
so with a splash
as
I recall.
There
was another
beside
me so soft
and
I inhaled deeply
the
air and the stars
and
the hint of perfume.
That
was the way
it
happened
on
many evenings
so
quiet
and
it now surfaces
in
dreams
or
odd moments
that
travel across time.
There
is, I think,
not
much to say
except
that it was
so
very very good.
